Hi,

I am new to the database testing. Please can anyone let me know how good is database testing /and its tools in the market from the career point. What are the prerequisites needed to start up/learn database testing.

Data base testing is one of the area in Validating the quality of the software which will really challenge you. Database testing always have good reputation in the market, and basically you will be using SQL queries to perform database validation.

Following are some of the prerequisites needed for database testing

1. Good knowledge in SQL queries.
2. Clear knowledge of DML, DDL and DCL
3. Very strong in join statements (mainly equi and non-equi joins)
4. Should have very sound knowledge of the application under test.
5. Should be aware of the reports generated and which tables are to be validated for the report generated
6. Data mapping of the tables for the respective modules should be known, hence you need to use several join statements to retrieve the records from different modules.
7. Primary key of each and every module. For example, if you are testing an insurance application, policy number will be primary key of the Policy module, and Benefit number is the primary key which relates policy table with the quote table.
8. Should have the mockup document saying the type of flat files that are to be validated against the database.

Database testing and performance testing, really a dream for most testers.

Actually when we talk about database testing, here comes the option of internal database structure and all to test or just to see which data save and retrive the same or not.In both cases, basic database concept are required for testing.
