    Re: Is smoke test compulsory

Hi Veda u have asked very good questions which are frequenly asked in the Interviews.
(1 A) Whenever we get a build we have to do smoke test because by the smoke test we can say that the build is suitable for Testing or not in this smoke testing we will check the main maoudel which are important for working on that application. The time varies form build to build. for eg: if u take a small application it will take less time if u take a large appication it will take much time for Testing..

    2) This one also varies from company to company. But most of the companies use Microsoft Visual Source Safe(VSS) it is just like repository to store the information. Here the process will as: If the files uploaded to the VSS then it will be called as Check In. If the files downloaded from VSS it will be called as Check OUt.

    3) When ever we get a modified build we have to test that effected form as well as the other form also to check whether the resolved effect may impact on other modules or not. Regression testing is must for every modified buil.

    4) First we have to execute the new module which is added after that we have to execute the old modules also because the new has effected the old one or not. Generally while adding the new feature s there will be a change in the old code. so we have to test the new features and also the old features according to the clients requirement.

    5) Yes we can Use...

I have answered to the best of my Knowledge.... k then All the Best BYEEEEEEEEE Veda

Thumbs up Re: Is smoke test compulsory

Find my answers in the blue line....

    1. When ever we get a build do we need to do smoke test is it compulsory, and how much do they spend for test.
Whenever a build is released or deployed the smoke test should be done compulsorily, and the smoke test has to be done to validate whether all the major functionalities are working and also to check whether the build is deployed correctly. Completion of smoke test is the entry criteria for carrying out the other testing activities like system test, regression testing etc.,
The time line depends on how complex or how bigger the application is. Generally, the smoke test is done on the first day of the deployment of the build

    2. Generally all the testcases are stored in which place in real time.is there tool used to store that testcases and test plan, suppose we are using test director can we store all our test cases in it, and where does entire application test cases and testplan is stored assuming that company is using test director.
Usally the test cases written are stored in the test management tools like Test Director or Quality Center, which can be easily mapped to the Test requirements. Before the test cases are uploaded in the Test director, it will be written in excel and saved in the common share like Documentum or VSS, which were the version controlling tools, where we can have all the versions created.

    3. When we file a bug, and it gets fixed after that do we need to do regressing testing only on that test case or any other test cases also.how the process will be there in real time.
For a fixed defect the regression testing will be done for that test cases and also the test cases which interacts with the modules. Suppose for a text box which has to accept the alphanumeric field fails, and a bug is raised for that. After the bug is fixed, the regression testing has to be done for the acceptance of alphanumeric characters and also to validate it does not takes special characters as a value, and also to check it accepts the numeric characters alone and the alphabaetic character alone also.

    4. When ever a new feature is added to the application do all the test cases to be reexicuted.
When a new feature is added to the application then all the test cases which interrelates with that feature and the corresponding modules should be reexecuted, not necessarily all the entire test cases to be executed. If the feature added is very critical to the application then all the test cases to be re executed.
The re execution depends on how critical the new feature is added.

    5. Can we use toad, winaql in oracle database to access sql queries.
Yes we can toad and winaql to access sql queries. Also there are lot of other tools for executing the SQL queries.
