    What is the different between SCN and check point sequence number?

    When SCN is generated? Which files are udated when SCN is generated? How can i view SCN?

    How many types of SCN is there and when they occur?

    Please reply with detailed answer as i am quite confuse with SCN...

    Hi Tina,

    The answer for "When SCN is generated?" It is getting generated when commiting a transaction. Purpose of SCN is to differntiate the commited and the uncommited transactions.

    You can view SCN using FLASHBACK package or sometimes in alertlogfile also.

    Scn is updated in the controlfile by checkpoint process. Difference between chekpoint number and SCn is
    "Checkpoint number is used to check the synchronization of all the physical files with respect to the controlfile" where as SCN is used for "from where exactly the roll forward has to happen"

    And for ur information. Checpoint number is generated using SCN as one of its input.
