If you have downloaded a evaluation version of LR. The licnese expires after 10 days. After 10 days you can't user controller. If you want to use it you need to buy license. :)
Are you able to record any other application if yes try port mapping. If you are using any client side certificate you can import it if required.
LR 8.0 does not support IE7.
You either need to upgrade to LR8.1FP4+patch for IE7 or upgrade directly to LR 9.0 or 9.1.
