Question asked by visitor Maansi
I don't have QTP on my system. I have installed MS word add-in my system and I am trying to write test cases. Should I be able to write test cases this way? Cause for now its giving me some Macro message.

Maansi,
You don’t have to use QTP to write test cases. You can write test cases in MSWord but when you want to automate the test cases you would need QTP.

Writing testcases does not require QTP.
You can write write test cases using Word or Excel, or may be in Quality Center.
Hello everybody
I am a new user to GeekInterview. Entered into software testing field recently.
Can any of our testing experts suggest me on this :
When I don't have any requirement documents, how can I test a windows based application. Just I am going through the application, trying to learn the functionalities and writing test cases accordingly. Is there any better way to be familiar with the application.
waiting for suggestions
sirijotha
hi srijotha,
Analyse the entire functionality and start writing test cases please let me know if any issues exists. Please note post the query in the proper location
Thanks,

HI Sirijotha,
Firstly welcome to the world of software.
Secondly from my experience i think you should test in the following flow
1. The vaildation of the fields.
2. Check the funtionality of a Field.
3. And after this, you should make a traceablilty matrix.
(From Traceability matrix you come to know what the system has to respond and where the user has to respond.)
And last but very important point when you don't have any requirement or specification then do not approach the software as a tester But, look the software from the End User point of view.

Hi Deepasree
thank u for your reply. Actually I was doing the same thing i.e. analysing the functionality of different fields, menus, sub menus, buttons and writing test cases accordingly.
I don't know where to post my questions related to test cases (I am really new to this type of forums and discussions), if you suggest me the correct place. I will do that accordingly.
thanks a lot.
sirijotha
Hi Skipout...
Thank u very much for your valuable suggestions. I am already following the first 2 points.

sirijotha
