I want to partition my disk using FDISK. Can someone tell me how to do this? I think if I do it wrongly I may lose data. So give me tips for doing this.

Re: Fdisk
Yes you must be careful while using FDISK since any existing data on your disk will be destroyed while you create partitins with FDISK. So take proper backup of necessary data as required before doing partition with FDISK.

Re: Fdisk
there will be more steps to be followed..
i just tell basic......
fdisk is started by typing (as root) fdisk device at the command prompt. device might be something like /dev/hda or /dev/sda The basic fdisk commands you need are:
p print the partition table
n create a new partition
d delete a partition
q quit without saving changes
w write the new partition table and exit

Re: Fdisk
Hello,
Regards your problem with "fdisk" . As already mentioned in the previous posts , please backup data .
Your doubt regarding fdisk in WinXP ( Professional taken into consideration ),
Assuming you have no drives , you can create drives just as fdisk ( In Win9x). And there is also an option to format them using FAT,FAT32,NTFS .
Its much more easier than fdisk in Win9x.
Hope it helps ,
