Speed is very slow...

hello friends!

plz find a solution to this i tried a lot many things but was not able to find the exact solution........... i own a compaq presario laptop, its speed i very slow, i mean a lot time is wasted in booting up the system. so what steps should i follow to increase its speed

First of all, the information provided by you is not enough. In any case, I shall explain some general scenarios.

The system boots slowly when it has to initialize too many things while starting up. Remove all the applications like messangers from startup. ALso any service (Like Oracle database etc) if they are defined as start automatically, then make it manual and start them only when they are needed. This should help you speed up youtr boot time.

And yes. If you have antivirus system like NAV, it drinks a lot of resources. Also, make a complete virus scan of your system. There might be some virus in your system too.

Hi,

Can you tell me the approximate time for boot up...
15-20 secs means its reasonable(with necessary software installed like MSword, antivirus)... If it is more than that then one of the reason might be the hardware... Because some mother board takes long time to detect all the devices installed in the system...
Second reason, Try to defragment the hard drive...
Third reason, Try to remove all the unwanted services using msconfig...

I dont know AVG antivirus but i heard that it has the facility of boot up scan... I think that might also a reason for that... If this is the reason then its okay... Its for good reason know...
Try installing other antivirus like Norton(This will take more time than avg) or Kaspersky...

and still again if prbl arise then u should consider it a technical fault...

its not the right solution.bcoz i know if we reinstall the xp problem goes out but not permanently.this problem again arises after 2-3 weeks.for XP i m having a software speeder XP...its really a funtastic software with full working.....its marvelous.....i was also going through the same problem but when i got this software, my problem is 80% solved bcoz the speed is about 3-4 times increased.............
