by r raghavendra/tnn bangalore: microsoft has had it enough with piracy. In an effort to discourage cheap replicas of its software, microsoft india has decided to go after software pirates starting july. The company is unifying all its anti-piracy efforts under the name genuine software initiative and would be spending close to $9 million in india under this initiative. The action plan beginning next week, microsoft will bombard you with messages in case you are using pirated software. The software behemoth is kicking off an online notification service that would notify users if their system is not using genuine windows software. There will be pop-ups at frequent intervals, telling the user he is a victim of piracy. The message will also direct the user to a site for validating the version of windows. If this cannot be done, it will provide an option to buy genuine software or direct him to a microsoft reseller. Read full article at epaper section in 26 may 2006 the times of india, bangalore

Wow, this is really a big undertaking done by Microsoft. Why is it that its only in India where this kind of piracy battle will take place? I hope it will be all around the world so that piracy would stop, not only on specific countries but every country that Microsoft has its program.
