Hi y'll,
What is data mapping, please?
Hi
Data mapping is the process of creating data element mappings between two distinct data models. Data mapping is used as a first step for a wide variety of data integration tasks including:
Data transformation or data mediation between a data source and a destination
Identification of data relationships as part of data lineage analysis
Discovery of hidden sensitive data such as the last four digits social security number hidden in another user id as part of a data masking or de-identification project
Consolidation of multiple databases into a single data base and identifying redundant columns of data for consolidation or elimination
hello..wale_canada
can u tell me abt more details Businessobjects.hw mny yrs of experience makes business analyst
Where u from ?
Business objects:5 yrs
Business analysis is the gap filler between the top management (Non IT) & IT, Thus a BA,s job is to understand what client wants, document it, tell the IT guy what needs to be done and deliver it to the client. Experience wise, i would say 2-3 yrs to start.
Business objects , do u mean as in BI or in reporting?..pls advise!
hi..who ru?from where r u?wht r u doing?
u askd wht is data mapping?
sol :. A mapping specifies how to move and transform data from sources to targets. Mappings include source and target definitions and transformations. Transformations describe how the PowerCenter Server transforms data. Mappings can also include shortcuts, reusable transformations, and mapplets. Use the Mapping Designer tool in the Designer to create mappings.
Honey_Bells Definition of a business Analysis is the correct definition in my book as to what a Business Analyst does. If anyone has anything else to add, please do so.
nrksathya has given a very good definition of data mapping but i just want to add one liner definition of data mapping
The process of assigning a source data element to a target data element.
Hi Mary,
Basically an Business Analyst role starts from begining of the project to its deployment.i.e. understanding complete requirements of your business users or clients, then document it by creating BRS document and then after finalizing send it to IT team to make them understand for creating SRS document and clear them if requires. Then coordinate with IT team by helping if required in designing and after the product is ready then its BA role to finalize the things by verifying the created product with the given requirements.perform testing and then to train the users for using the system. So a BA plays very key role in software development. For this one should be a good listener and having analytical skills.
I agree in general with the above reply, but would ask you to explain BRS and SRS!
I would add that a good Business Analyst must be able to do more that just 'document' his / her findings, they must be able to build business models to depict them.
The first and most essential model is the Business Function Model. Other models that might be required are:
* Process models
* Information flow models
* Procedure models
* Data models
In many organisations the role of Data Modeler is separated from Business Analyst. This is a mistake and causes a disconnection. Good BAs should be able to do both.
BRS - Business Requirement Document
If an analyst specifies its requirement from business perspective then all the requirements are defined in BRS document for creating the SRS (Software Requirement Document) from system analyst from development team.
The models specified by you are part of these documents as the BRS document should contain the system process flow. conversely SRS document contains details about the required procedure as well as what kind of data models are being used for system development to be written with the help of development team.
what is the main use of data modeling?
