The format of sysdate is (mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss AM/PM)

Format of sysdate is dd-mon-yy
give the following command and get the format of data ,what ever u want:-
alter session set nls_date_format='DD-MM-YYYY'
You may use the above shown ALTER command to change the date format every time you want it.

which can be changed by useing the alter command.
