    100% bug free

Hi, after testing a software , whether we can say that it is 100% bug free.

    Re: 100% bug free

At any point of time it is impossible to say that the software is 100% bug free. We can say it as a Quality Software. The testing for an application is said to be complete when all the test cases satisfying the requirement are executed and the corresponding Defects raised were fixed and closed. Then also, there are chances to find out bug and hence we say it as a Quality software but not 100% bug free.

Testing activity itself is considered to be completed when the following events happen:
    1. All the test cases written have been executed.
    2. Very minimal chances of identifying defect after a threshold point of time
    3. All the defects raised were fixed and closed
    4. The software tested is approved by Management and went to live.

But we cannot say that the software is bug free if the above criterias were met.

    Re: 100% bug free

    Hi Balaji,

It is really not possible to say that any software is 100% bug free even after rigorous testing.

Sridharganesan has actually highlighted the points when we can consider Testing to be complete very precisely.

Though we create n number of Testcases which pertain to different levels - Integration, System, Regression..... Every team generally reserves sometime to perform Adhoc Testing. This is because however adequate your testcases be, however good the coverage - There is a possibility that a defect might not be trapped.

So the sad part of Testing story is - A s.w product can be as per Standards and acceptable Quality but can never be 100% bug free

    Cheers...

Testing is a never ending procedure. As you test more and more you will found more issues.
But to stop testing you should have some exit criteria as mentioned by some of the readers above.
This exit criteria should be verified correctly to take any stop decision.

    Hi Balaji,
Please keep this truth in your mind.

"Software is designed and developed and even tested by humans,so its obvious that it is not perfect".

    Thanks,
    Krishna.
