Test plan is a systematic plan of activities for testing actiivities. It includes the following
1. Description of the application to be tested
2. features to be tested
3. features not to be tested
4. approach of testing
5. duration
6. Resources

Test Plan is a document which is prepared after the Requirement gathering and it has the road map for the entire testing activity. Once the functional requirement docuement is done and the estimates are prepared the test plan will be prepared which has the details of what are the activities that are going tobe furnished in the testing.

Following are the contents that will be included in the Test Plan.

1. Objectvie
2. Current State of the System
3. Requirement that are going to be tested
4. Business requirement, Technical requirement, System Changes that have been modified.
5. Schedule
6. Tools that are to be used and the Environment
7. Team involved in Testing
8. Roles and Responsibilities
9. Types of Testing that are to be done
10. Level of testing
11. Risks and Mitigation
12. Features that are to be tested and not tested
13. Inscope and out of scope items
14. Defects that are to Retested and their corresponding Regression test cases.
15. The RAG factor.
16. Access Rights required
17. Conclusion

There may be some other also and it depends on the project and the environment.
