How to Block messages in UNIX

While working in my UNIX system, while running a program I do not want to get messages sent by other users as it interrupts my work. Is there any command that I can set to block the messages sent by users in between my program. If so what is it?

To suppress or to avoid the incoming messages one can set the mesg command as n that is in other words setting as below
    mesg n
will not allow the messages. If one tries to send messages when mesg is n they will get message as permission denied. Again when the user likes to get the message they can set it back to y
