What are the essentil skills for a career in Data Warehousing.

You need to be good in database ... most of the companies use Oracle as corporate database... try to learn oracle .... it's free to download from oracle site..

learn Data warehousing concepts... you can install sample data warehousing database with oracle installation.. just go though the schemas...

learn SQl and Pl/SQL .. since you need to create custom functions if you are using any tools like Informatica, datastage and Abintio for ETL process...

you need to have good understanding on how companies use data warehousing specific to their industry like banking, stores ....

HI,

It also matters if you have an idea about which are the tools the company is specifically working on.

It is also important to differentiate between ETL tools and BI tools, both the tools are used at different stages of Data Warehousing.
