Perform load testing

I have downloaded a trial s/w to perform performance testing, but not able to implement that tool. Suggest me the common guidelines to perform it

1) first go through basic part of architecture overview like client server architecture and web based architecture 2) document your aim what exactely you would like to do in loadrunner and what component you will use for that. Like response time 3) take sample application from loadrunner and do step by step recording 4) run that particular part of recording in controller and try to create customized scenario 5) do write your message in script using command lr_output_message. So, that you can make sure you are working on right path 5) try to know, what each graph significance
