can any one pls guide me regarding the latest scjp certification pattern & what is industry requirement in regards to this as I have already registered for java.sun.com as a student profile. Pls advice me something different from that.

However, it my personal advise to anyone who are about to take up SCJP. Act as per my following advice snippet!

then {take up SCJP1.4 as it is easier when compared to SCJP5 in the sense no new concepts like autoboxing, etc}

Was contemplating on Doing SCJP scertification. I am a novice in Java,but pretty much well versed with C++.

Was confused whether to go for JDK 5 certification directly or do JDK 1.4 certification and then write an upgrae exam?

Any suggestions?

SCJP 5 has a lot of new concepts like autoboxing, enums, generics etc.

SCJP2 does not have these questions.

At an exam level, SCJP5 has drag and drop questions and requires a higher percentage to pass.

One option (and a good one at that) is to take SCJP2 and then, when you gain a little more experience and confidence, take the SCJP5 upgrade exam instead of the actual scjp5 exam.

I have prepared for both the 2 and 5 version and you can take it from me the 5 is quite a lot tougher (it's not only because of the new concepts, the nature of questions itself is tougher).

But then this might be just me. I have worked on JAVA1.4 for 3 years now but have used 1.5% for about a year

I d like to think SCJP 1.4 is closer to C++ than the later versions.

Comparing Java to C++ and learning Java is a great activity.

You get up to better speed than complete novices and at the same time learn a lot about some subtle facets of OOP

Graduation of any kind is not necessary. you can sign up any time as long as you are willing to pay

I have a question for rachilc: In what was did you think that the 1.5 exam was harder? Specifically, what was is about the 1.5 test
questions (more concepts, longer code snippets, more trick questions, etc) that made it more challenging?
