This is a good initiative . I have some topics for discussion.

    1) the cost ratio (and time ratio) to be incurred (allotted) by a software company for s/w development and s/w testing.

    2) in-house development by client company vs development contract to s/w company.

    3) testing by development company vs testing by third party company.

    admin,

Its not clear, what do you mean preparing for first discussion topic.

I thought, I have suggested few topics and the group has to choose one of them or add topics of their choice. Finally, we all would agree to discuss one topic at a time (exactly like it happens in a face-to-face GD). And you as ‘admin’ create a new thread for further discussion on that topic. Let’s name this kind of discussion as Virtual Discussion (VD).

I thought this is how it would work. If you have had a different idea, please share.

    Re: Group Discussions

By conducting Group Discussion thro' forum, ppl will get idea about what to speak.
But there are lots of other things (how to) to be considered in face to face discussions. take that too into account. that will help from interview perspective.

    sutnarcha,

    Your thoughts are absolutely correct.

When i said "preparing for first discussion topic", I just meant
Include a small introduction on each topic so that every one will get clear idea as to what the discussion is about.

Group Discussions are mainly intended for freshers.
Senior and Experienced members are expected to guide aspiring candidates to face GD confidently.

Members can opt for any of topics you have suggested.
There is no different idea on Group Discussion other than what sutnarcha has already said.

    Re: Group Discussions

    sutnarcha,

Perhaps Virtual Group Discussion (V-GD) would be more appropriate, is it not?

Anyways Your 2nd and 3rd topics seems more suitable for group discussion.

The topics must provide ample scope for freshers to debate its pro's and con's, so that they can prove their point.

If I read you properly, in your case we will debate - Should a client opt for in-house development or contract the development work to software company. What are the advantages by opting for in-house development. What are its limitations, on the other hand we shall see How contracting the development work to software company ultimately benefit the client?

    Thanks

I have posted below some important things one need to take care while participating in GD

    * While presenting points the subject taken must not be deviated.
    * The words must not reflect any personal attacks.
    * Analaytical and logical presenatation would fetch more points
    * The presentation in GD would fetch more points not only by a person's communication skills but how one has the skill and ability to take part as a team player and present the points.

    Thumbs up Re: Group Discussions

Yes Sriram I like the topic and feel that it has good collection of points to talk as GD on both sides of the topic.

I am going with the yes side that is Yes women managers prove better managers and I have initiated my views on the topic taking the lead.

Friends I like to start the discussion giving a real statistics fact that more than 50% that is more than half of the world's private companies have women managers. Not only this another fact is that these women managed companies have a great turnover which definetly proves their efficiency as not only better but best.

Waiting eagerly for the spirit to catch up and for Someone continue on this or fight against this!!!!!!

    Re: Group Discussions

Yes sripri this is RyanJames here and I am giving my views.I am also going with the same view as Yes women managers prove better managers.

The approach in which women deal a situation in management role is different from the way men handles it.This is because of the biological fact of women upbringing which makes women more flexible and which this approach in management makes women manage in a better way.

We are all waiting for someone to post on the other view to make the discussion interesting.

    Re: Group Discussions

I like to place my answer for our friend timmy who has posed a question asking for the difference between group discussion and debate

A group discussion is sharing of ideas and knowledge regarding a given subject where the points are made addressing the group as a whole where by ideas are exchanged. One must not only have good communication skill for group discussion but also must know how to coordinate in a team or group and take the lead to communicate the points in a clear manner.

But a debate is mostly a contest though it is not a rule and sometimes could take up the shape of a game in which there can be even two speakers or more speakers who present their arguments intent on persuading one another. Here communication skills play a vital part.
