How does a project time is estimated

My doubt is How does a project time is estimated.
You have been given an application to test and asked for the time taken to complete the testing for it.
Whether it could be an Web-based application or Client Sever Application or Desktop Application.

Re: How does a project time is estimated

    Following factors should be considered

    1) Number of main modules and the number of sub-modules for each.
    2) Number of test scenarios and the number of test cases in each.
    3) Testing resources (i.e. number of people who will actually test).
    4) The speed of application.
    5) Time required for KT and CI.
    6) Time required for dev team bug resolution.
    7) and more..... according to the type of the project.

Lack of WILL POWER has caused more failure than
    lack of INTELLIGENCE or ABILITY.

Generally one third time as used for development is required for testing.
But still we can calculate that depending on function point to be tested and the type of testing will be performed on those functions.
