For performing Acceptance testing , There is a document called ATP(AcceptanceTest Plan) is followed, which is prepared during the Design phase and this document is also approved by the Customer.

According to me Acceptance Testing is done by performing the Beta testing at customer site.

UAT is done either at development end (Alpha UAT) in the environment that is similar to that of the clients or at clients end (Beta UAT).

The end users of the s/w start working on the developed s/w to test if it can be used for their day-to-day business and is acceptable.

Lack of WILL POWER has caused more failure than
    lack of INTELLIGENCE or ABILITY.

Acceptance testing is performed by customer either at development site or his site.

when customers are performing this testing at development site is called Alpha - Testing to verify that whether functionlities of developed s/w is working correctly w.r. t their requirements

when customers are performing this testing at thier site is called Beta-testing

there are two terms used for acceptance testing:-

    1)Alpha testing
    2)Beta testing

If it is alpha testing then it will conducted in the company in testing environment.

If it is beta testing then it will be conducted by a group of users in real environment.
