    software installed

    Hi,
    Is there any command in linux to know if a software is already installed or not in linux. Any help how to do this?

    In Redhat and Fedora use:

    rpm -qa | grep <.PackageName.>
    PackageName - Name of the rpm used to install the software package.. No need for full name but a few characters from start or anywhere from rpm name.

    ie. To check gnome-system-monitor-2.14.1-1.fc5.1

    rpm -qa | grep gnome
    rpm -qa | grep system-monitor
