XP comes with a free Network Activity Light
XP comes with a free Network Activity Light, just in case you can't see the LEDs twinkle on your network card. Right click on My Network Places on the desktop, then select Properties. Right click on the description for your LAN or dial-up connection, select Properties, then check the Show icon in notification area when connected box. You'll now see a tiny network icon on the right of your task bar that glimmers nicely during network traffic.

I thought by defailt that icon will be appearing... It even tells if the network goes down, if it is slow or if it is connected.

(Never knew I could control it though. All along I thoguht it was default setting. Also, Even Windows 2000 also had it as far as I remember)

    Kalayama,

Yes, this is default as you said but 'customizable'.
It is available in Win 2k and Win 2k3 also.

    That's what I thought

It is indeed very handy... (Can't imagine not having that icon, I am that much used to it).

By clicking on that we can even tell the number of packets sent and recieved.

Is there any difference in their feature when compared with Win 2k and Win 2k3 as it is available in that also.
