When you are running your tests in the Normal Run mode, you will see an execution arrow to the left of the scripts in both Keyword and Expert view, depending upon what view you are viewing. For this, you can also specify time that QTP will wait before proceeding to the next step and thus, requires more resources. Also, you must have MS Script Debugger to have your scripts run in Normal mode.

Actually it depends on you what are your requirements, and definitely fast mode is fast execution.

Prefer normal mode for debugging and fast mode if you have already debug your script and you are satisfied with it, for regression testing.
