Does QTP Script run if the system is locked?

Hi all, experts please answer this query. This is urgent.

Could you please tel if the QTP scripts will run if I lock my system and leave.
Currently, if I lock my system, the QTP scripts fails.

Hi amni ! It totally depends upon the application which you are using. I mean there is no such property in QTP for script execution when comp. is locked. It varies from appl. to appl. I am working on 3 appl. Scripts belonging to 2 of them fail when I lock my Comp. but continue exec. in case of last one.

Generally test scripts will fail incase the system gets locked. This limitation is not limited to only QTP but happens with most of the tools.

Reason behind this being, focus is shifted from the current execution process to OS.

We have overcome this problem by getting Admin Pack installed for Windows XP. Admin pack basically enables the OS activites to operate independently of the ongoing process.

Thus the execution process still continues to have focus even if the system gets locked. I suppose you could contact your sysadmin personnel to get more info on Admin Pack.

Hi amni ! While executing the script for web app.(Siebel), I lock my comp., they fail.
But when I did the same while executing the scripts for CSA - STV i.e a web application built on .net, it kept on executing.

The web application stops in the following scenarios:
1.If the web application contains page refreshes
2.If page contains AJAX
3.And in your page based on your selection few more objects may appear.At times testing stops.

Generally QTP will stops the testing of web application when the computer is locked.

If you are testing any Database application.Then QTP willl continue its testing even though the computer is locked
