What is Difference b/w Localization Testing and Internationalization Testing?

Internationalization is making multiple versions of a s/w to suit natural and/or cultural and/or linguistic requirements of different regions around the world.

Localization is making the required changes into a s/w of a particular region (say England) to suit natural and/or cultural and/or linguistic requirements of the local region (say India).

In the testing phase, there would be respective testing for these 2 concepts to see if they are carried out correctly and completely. As it is evident from the above definitions, such a test team needs to have good knowledge of the transformational requirements (nature, cultures, languages) involved.:eek:

A) When internationalization is applied to languages that use different alphabets, keys are coded to replace standard English alphabets. Alphabets vary in length, and certain keys may need to be omitted to exactly replicate the alphabets of other languages. Keyboards may also be localized to a specific culture to address significant differences in alphabets. For example, an Arabic keyboard or a Russian keyboard would need to be Internationzation market.


When Localization describes the attempts on the part of the software or hardware manufacturer to adapt items like keyboards to a specific market. For example, an US english keyboard keyboard would need to be localized.

Programs that address alphabetic changes may also address scripting differences, particularly when hardware or software is localized.
