Do I need knoweldge in any script writing to learn testing

I am working in Database side. But Now I am having a plan to shift my work in testing. I have not worked on it before. So, Do I need knoweldge in any script writing? Or I have to learn some testing tools like load runner. Like those stuffs. If I wanted to learn testing tools? Help me in this?

For mercury tools you should familiar with C because TSL(test script language) generated and used by winrunner(functional testing tool) is C like language.
