Where all these placed in OS?

In the internet age the common terms heard about the damages caused to system with Internet are Virus, worm, Spware, Adware.There are anti software and utilities to handle all this. But I am interested in knowing the fact what happens inside the operating system when each of the following enters in the system. In other words whether all gets resided in the same place in operating system or in different place?
