There is a toolbox item called as "HTML Item" available in Cognos 8 which you can use to utilize java script in Cognos.

Just drag-drop a HTML item into your report and copy-paste your java script into this HTML Item and save the report. Just make sure your script is modified to work with the correct report elements.

Yup!!! He is correct. Add to that, scripts are like macros.Depends on the requirment,can be used anywhere in our reports. Ex:we can use scripts in prompts to get a default selection.
