Re: Free Solaris 10 and Sun Studio Software Media Kit
Hi
I have downloaded Solaris and made the required DVD. But I have a problem on the Installation process. I have one Harddisk on my laptop of x86 arch and already have windows XP and Linux installed on it ( Fedora and VineLinux). A total of 3 operating systems already exist. I still have a free space of 10GB on my 60GB HDD. Now this free space is in extended partition.
My question is Can Solaris co-exist with other OS? If so what is the process to install ? If a separate HDD is required for this purpose, my laptop would not be sufficient, then in that case any alternative methods are possible to install like installing on 1gb USB or anything like that?
Thanks in advance.
Rgds

Re: Free Solaris 10 and Sun Studio Software Media Kit
Hi Jana,
This is with regard to the Solaris installation with other OS. You can install the Solaris OS with other Operating Systems by leaving one partition i.e. the partition which you have mentioned without any file system. You need to format that partition with a bootable disc or by DM. Then that partition will be taken by the Solaris OS as default and will install.

Mohammad Siraz
Re: Free Solaris 10 and Sun Studio Software Media Kit
Hey Mohammad,
You do not need to format the partation using bootable disk. you just need to leave one of the partitions and detect that while you install - and further the solaris will look after it..
