How to test CICS, MainFrame applications?

How to test CICS, MainFrame applications? What are all the things to be taken care of when testing?

There are no testing tools to test such applications. :o

They can be tested only manually:mad:. All the manual testing techniques need to be followed. :D

we can do an automation testing for mainframe by using qtp..
This will be OR dependent.....we can hardly do a descriptive programming through QTP..

we need a terminal emulator addins for QTP unless it can not idenfy the objects..screens.......

u need to add all the abjects reqd...to OR..
no recording funda here...
rest all the same...enhanse the script...run...

Mainframe tester have the knowledge of testing , and mainframes knowledge is an additional advantage.Because you are going to test the mainframe application.

You need to know the navigations, job monitoring and checking the status of the jobs.

The testing process would be the same like other web based applications...

1) Hiper station - Mainly used for Regression testing of CICS

2) Strobe ( Performance Testing)

3) Omegamon ( Performance Testing)

4) QTP

You can use EXPIDITOR.

As far as I know Hiperstation is one of the tool used for record and play CICS screen. I have got KT on that also, but i am unable to navigate to different options available in Hiperstation. It is showing some "SITE PROFILE MISSING" error. Don't know how to resolve it. If anyone have any idea please revert back.

On Hiperstation, this is what i have got in KT -
Suppose you need to create 100 accounts for a particular customer to test for a particular scenario. Creating one account for one customer manually takes lots of time since user has to follow lots of procedure to get that account created. So, From Hiperstation user can record steps for creation of one account and then run the recorded scripts again to create another account. There must be some adjustment done in the recorded scripts to get all 100 unique accounts.
This is what i got. And I wanted to try it by myself but as said earlier i am facing that stupid error and my help desk is unable to resolve it.

Mainframe Testing is similar to client-server applications testing, but you have to know how to operate basic TSO and ISPF commands and menus, view mainframe files, look at and use SDSF or other output tool, log on CICS and transactions, use FTP or another transfer protocol, submit the batch job - it's for QA testing of mainframe applications. check this link - bit.ly/1UvtLp5
