Steps or commands used to access the Oracle database

Hi All

Could somebody please help me with steps or commands to access a oracle database using linux commands.This is my first time working on Oracle.The reason I want access the database is so that I can copy or backup a number of tables from the database and the back it up to another server with a Postgres database..
