The difference between the squares of two consecutive positive whole numbers is 25. Can you find the two numbers?
let us say first number is 'a' then the other number is a+1.
It is given that
(a+1)^2 - a^2 = 25
=> (a+1+a) (a+1-a) = 25 [ Since a^2 - b^2 = (a + b) (a - b) ]
2a +1 = 25
Hence a= 12
Those numbers are 12 and 13.
