Train station
Every day, Joe arrives at the train station from work at 6pm. His wife leaves home in her car to meet him there at exactly 6pm, and drives him home. One day, Joe gets to the station an hour early, and starts walking home, until his wife meets him on the road. They get home 20 minutes earlier than usual. How long was he walking? Distances are unspecified. Speeds are unspecified, but constant.

Re: Train station
"They get home 20 minutes earlier than usual". So she met Joe 10minutes earlier then she usually does. (coming 10 + returnig 10 = 20 minutes earlier)
So she met him at 5:50 and Joe walking 50 minutes from train station.

Re: Train station
Joe's wife's round trip was decreased by 20 minutes, which means each way of her trip was decreased by 10 minutes. Thus, she met Joe 10 minutes earlier than she usually does (6:00), so she meets him at 5:50. Since Joe started walking at 5:00, he must have been walking for 50 minutes.
