Help to find the number of Apples
Two friends Tom and Jerry each have a collection of apples. Tom said that if Jerry would give him 8 of his apples they would have an equal number; but, if Tom would give Jerry 8 of his apples, Jerry would have 3 times as many apples as Tom. How many apples does Jerry have?
Re: Help to find the number of Apples
Tom is having 24 while Jerry is having 40 apples.

Why dont you post the simplest way of solving..that will help me and others too
Re: Help to find the number of Apples
Here is the way of solution...
x=Jerry and y=Tom
x-8 = y+8 and x+8 = 3(y-8)
First equation -> x-y=16
Second equation -> x-3y=-32
If you solve this equation, you can get the value x=40 and y=24
