It ia a welcoming boom that IT has taken its premium place in the recent years in India..And today we can see many software industries growing up and providing ample opportunities for freshers. The services offerd by these firms are also highly efficient that today India is becoming one of the best nations on outsourcing..
With the Q3 results up., we cud see many companies boosting up their revenues in terms of IT to the maximum compared to the other sectors. With the service development already gaining momentum,I feel that India can concentrate on product development too so that much of the Indian brains can be more efficiently utilised.
Re: Should IT Companies in India focus on products or on services (GD#3 17-01-2007)
This is one of the best GD topics and most relevant.
Actually Indian IT companies are known for thier services and not for any products. (Exclude i-FLEX from the list). I feel that we should start working towards having some products under belt. Since we have in depth knowledge of all the business domains, we should start developing enterprise solutions (Like SAP). In fact companies like TCS and Infosys are already doing it.
This will give us unique power over the entire IT kingdom. We are already good with service industry. Once we have good products under our belt, Indian IT industry will be the strongest in the world.
Now if you see the world's software companies, maximum revenues/profits are being bagged by product based companies (Like Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe etc.). Imagine all this or atleast a portion of this money flowing into India. Won't it give India awesome power economically as well as politically?
According to me, keep the good work up in service domain and start working towards patenting some products. Surely our Indian IT industry will raise to great levels.

My vote would be for IT Companies in India should focus on products as creating innovative products is a challenge and Indians have versatile talents and creativity to handle these with effeciency.Infact this trend is coming up and many companies try to make prodcts which are more scable.
Re: Should IT Companies in India focus on products or on services (GD#3 17-01-2007)
It's a good move India focus on Product rather solutions but it's very difficult at least for few more years.. since economy needs to be very strong.. it's getting strong but needs to be more.. all this can happen only with solutions and products where necessary.. this is too late to concentrate on Products unless some one comes up with unique idea which works internationally

Should IT Companies in India focus on products or on services
I believe Indian IT companies should concentrate on both things.focus on services helps to maintain GR of indian economy and to increase the indian forex. In the same time should spend more money in R&D to develop products to hold our position as an IT leader in the world in future also.
Re: GD-003 Should IT Companies in India focus on products or on services
This GD is nicely going on. Here is my point..
Only some big IT companies in india should focus on product. Most of all the small companies focusing only services. Because they need a money to move their company at beginning. Once he got so much credit then only they think about the product.
