XP will treat Zip files like folders

XP will treat Zip files like folders, which is nice if you've got a fast machine. On slower machines, you can make XP leave zip files well alone by typing 'regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll' at the command line. If you change your mind later, you can put things back as they were by typing 'regsvr32 zipfldr.dll'.

    Hello Jim,

I think Its because you have installed winrar application
The above tip will not have any effect on winrar

Well Shivanna it is not because he has winrar. I have winrar too but, my machine opens all .zip files by itself. (i.e. XP handles this).

Now what could be Jim's problem? Actually winrar has an option of associating it with the type of files. (You can specify .zip, .rar, .tar, .gzip etc etc). Now, if you choose .zip here, then winrar will be made the default application for opening .zip files.

When I moved to XP, I was not comfortable with XP handling the zip files by itself . Thank you for the solution, but now I am used to XP doing it for me.

    Anyways good tip.
