COBOL is desigend specifically for commercial applications , such as payroll and inventory, that typically operate on a large volume of data.> older mainframe -based "leagcy" system will need to be maintained by mainframe programmers who knpw cobol.
Old versions of cobol viz. MS-Cobol, Cobol-85 etc are structured but cobol 2002 and cobol 97 are object oriented.

I have used the MicroFocus Cobol Compiler (and I believe ther are others) on UNIX and Windows. I have also seen Cobol on HP 3000 and Vax. Programming Languages are platform independent if there are compilers.
I suppose you could set the program to poll an input file. The difficulty you'd have is that while it isn't polling, it's probably looping. That's a good way to get your program swapped out or cance...
The question is largely a thing of the past as there are mainframe operating systems currently running on laptops. These laptops are officially licensed by IBM and for all intents and purposes functi...

Yes you can only do that by overriding main method signature for eg main(String[] args) to main().
Certainly there are no other ways to do that because JVM needs strings array arguments to take comma...

Static methods cannot be overridden because method overriding only occurs in the context of dynamic (i.e. runtime) lookup of methods. Static methods (by their name) are looked up statically (i.e. at c...

If a subclass defines a class method with the same signature as a class method in the superclass, the method in the subclass hides the one in the superclass. You didn't override the method a(), because static methods are not inherited. If you had put @Override, you would have seen an error.
