The Internet Message Access Protocol (commonly known as IMAP) is an Application Layer Internet protocol that allows an e-mail client to access e-mail on a remote mail server.

IMAP is stands for Internet message access protocol, which is used for accessing mails from the server and this protocol leave not remove the mail from the server but if we POP(Post Office Protocol) it can be remove from the server mails.
