What are all the basic things i should know

Hi,

I was a Java developer for two years and then I was asked to work on Automation of Testing tools using TCL/Tk scripting language for 9 months.. Now that project is over. I would like to shift into testing completely either manual or automation. But my manual testing knowledge is very littlle. So what would you suugest me to take over. Can you also please let me know that to enter into manual testing what are all the basic things i should know......

If i was at your place , i would have choosen to go back to my old job as java developer. And it is strictly my personal openion on the situation.
