How many minutes was his clock faster?

John left home at 8:00AM for the bus station. When he arrived at the bus station, the clock at the bus station showed 8:05AM. He immediately found out that he forgot his math book and returned home. When he got back home, the clock at home showed 8:18AM.

Assume his walking speed is always the same. How many minutes was his clock faster?

Re: How many minutes was his clock faster?

I give answer. If someone asks I always give the solution.

Let the John's clock be x minutes faster
To reach from home to station John took 5+x minutes.
To reach from station to home John took 18-5-x = 13-x minutes
Both time should be equal since his speed is always same.
    5+x = 13-x
    hence x = 4 minutes.

One more simple solution is, When he got back home, the clock at home showed 8:18AM.John left home at 8:00AM.
total time is 18 min.One side time is 9min.bus station showed 8:05AM.
so, john's watch is 4 min faster, in real he left the home at 7:56AM.
