    How old are they?

A brother and sister have a combined age 98. The brother is now twice as old as his sister was when he was as old as she is now. How old are they?

    Re: How old are they?

    Let Brother's present age = B
    Let Sister's present age = S
    Let present year ( like 2007) = P

    B + S = 98 --- eq (1)

    Sister age today = S
    Year in which Brother's age was S = (P-B) + S
    Sister's age in that year was = (P-B) + S - (P - S) = 2S - B

    Hence B = 2[2S - B] ---eq (2)

    Solving eq(1) and eq(2) we get B = 56 and S = 42
