Hello,
I am working as system admin i have query regarding we have currently 600 users are working in project1 in which NIS server used with HP UX rx2660 for authentication with 70 Exceed client & 3 NIS slave server

But now this project has sold most (90% - 500 users) of its projects to New client so we have to configure this Project 1(old) Nis server to new project2. So query regarding this.
If i will change domain name will that be any problem in slave & other client .which are the process / command need to follow.

Also one more thing as project 1 (old) will have 100 users with 4 Servers as NIS client , so is it require NIS Master server ?
will that be necssary . what will be minimum configuration is required for this.
If i may plan on Linux / HP -UX or solaris as NIS master server if anybody has procedure then let me know.

Thank you in Advance

Hi Guys,

Linux: format your usb drive via command line

Formating your usb memory pen / stick via command line is pretty easy. Once you know how to do it, that is.

1. Insert your usb memory pen / stick or whatever into the usb drive and immediately after that, open a terminal and paste this:

dmesg | tail

2. Unmount your usb drive using the following command:

sudo umount /dev/sdd

3. Format the drive using the following commands:

a) format to fat:

sudo mkdosfs -n 'label' -i /dev/sdd

b) format to ext3:

sudo mkfs.ext3 -n 'label' -i /dev/sdd

Thanks,

Hi Friends,

Seahorse :: Secure confidential files in Linux.

Seahorse is a Gnome front end for GnuPG - the Gnu Privacy Guard program. It is a tool for secure communications and data storage.

U can quickly secure confidential files by using Seahorse. Here is how.

Install Seahorse:

sudo apt-get install seahorse-plugins

Then restart Nautilus:

killall nautilus && nautilus &

After the installation, go to

System > Accessories > Passwords and Encryption Keys and select File > New > PGP Key, Then enter your name, email.

You may also change the encryption method (or just leave the default option) and the encryption key length, but be aware that the longer the key, the more it will take to secure a file (but obviously, the file will be more secure).

When u finish with this, you'll have to enter a passwords. That's it.

Thanks,

Hi friends,

./configure ::Tell you everything missing or failed in linux

When trying to compile something from source in linux, there may be lots of dependencies missing.

Running the ./configure command will only tell you one missing dependency. Then you must run ./configure again, install another missing dependency, run it again and so on.

However, u can make ./configure tell you everything that it's missing or failed, running it only once.

For this, use the following command:

./configure -n > config.txt

Then check the config.txt file for all the lines that say no, missing, or failed.

The -n will run configure but nothing will actually be changed. U can also use ./configure -h - it will give you the options.

Thanks,
