    About the architecture of database.

    hi,

i used to have problem in understanding schemas, execution plan of a query.

Usually i used to compare the execution like c,c++ programme flows. So i want to know in details that what actually happens at backend when i am writing a query and giving command to execute it.

Is it similar to c/c++ execution or do i need to change my perception for a better understanding. Can any body help me out.

And if possible please tell me the hierarchical structure of oracle database, that how it is designed.

    Thanks,
    Neel.

Re: About the architecture of database.

    Hello Bala,
first thing i mean to say is..from where we should start understanding oracle being a devloperlike is there anything above schema or tablespace..how they are arranged and what r d things we should know being a devloper..as when i am trying to work out on table/sequences..then sometimes these data dictionary comes into picture...so how they are guided..means..at top tablespace then ->schema->data dictionary->tables/schema....
    like that...

however, if possible plz tell me wht will be difference in that hierarchy if an administrator will try to understand?..i mean RMAN,and all other things...where they will stand..so overall u can say i am asking oracle server architecture....
and wht will be d changes if it is viewed from warehouse aspect.

well, i know, u need to have lots of space and time to answer this question. But it will increase my understanbility towards oracle as a whole.

    i am a developer..working in oracle 9i environment.

    Thanks!

Re: About the architecture of database.

    Hmm cool man,

To start with i can say that the database is divided into 2 structure:
    1.Physical structure
    2.Logical structure

Discussing abt physical structure: It has got 3 mandatory files(i mean the mandatory ones) Datafile, controlfile and redolog files

While discussing abt the logical structures we have got the following:

    Tablespace_
    Segments_
    Extents_
    Blocks
And the concepts goes on on and on

And the schema is nothing but a logical getting created when u create an user. And abt RMAN, its a server managed backup, restore and recovgery. Its a tool or utility for backup and recovery operations.

As of now guess u will find some clarity, if not post ur questions

    Thanks
