Hi,
When a system is deployed for testing, Smoke test will be carried out first. While doing smoke test, the major functionalities alone are tested and validated and also the system is checked for its stability. When smoke test passes only we can carry out other testing. The successful completion of smoke test is one of the entry criteria for the system testing to begin. Hope you are clear!! Regards, Ganesan

Hi,
Smoke testing: We will check the major functionalites of the application System Testing: we will check the application from first end to the last end. i.e Enter in to a website ,do some business in the website and logout of the website. Ultimately..... Smoke testing is carried out first...

Smoke testing is done before system testing, because the tester has to first ensure whether the build is worth testing or not.

Smoke testing is sometimes named as "Dry Run" also.

smoke testing will be performed by every tester because after completion of application development process every tester should check whether the application is containing the req's of the customer or not

Smoke testing is done first as it is initial level testing to test a softwrae whether it is ready for the further testing efforts
System testing is done when the system is ready and need to give a final touch

@ trainee_tester,
the both testes which u mentioned were not done by testers intially. when tester get build, intially sanity test will be done to accept the build. then followed by System testing. Sanity will be done by Developers before releasing the build
