I contacted STC Technologies to learn testing tools,they told me that industry is not asking for white box test professionals,and asked me to opt for black box testing,is this true?

STC would have informed you like that because, in general the White box testing is carried out by the Developers themselves. The white box testing is done against the code using techniques like statement coverage, branch coverage and condition coverage. So, for a person to do the White box testing he should be knowing both the language in which the applicaiton is developed and the testing techniques. But for a black box testing it is done against the requirements. Here the functionality and the performance of the system is tested.

Regarding the job opportunities, there are lot for the persons who knows the automation tools. There are lot of demand for a person who knows QTP or Rational Robot or Load runner along with Test management tool such as QC or Test director.

If you want to stabilize yourself as a functional tester then learn QTP along with QC, or as a Performance Tester learn Loadrunner with QC.
