If I understand your question correctly, you want to know how to handle exceptions and avoid the standard error dialog that QTP throws? Well, there are ways to handle that dialog box as well. For starters, try using QTP's built in Recovery Scenario. Or, you can use Conditional or Exit statements to avoid errors being thrown in the midst of the test run.
