When you are running your tests in the Normal Run mode, you will see an execution arrow to the left of the scripts in both Keyword and Expert view, depending upon what view you are viewing. For this, you can also specify time that QTP will wait before proceeding to the next step and thus, requires more resources. Also, you must have MS Script Debugger to have your scripts run in Normal mode.

Normal (displays execution marker)—Runs your
test or component with the execution arrow to
the left of the Keyword View or Expert View,
marking each step or statement as it is
performed. This option requires more
system resources.
Note: You must have Microsoft Script Debugger
installed to enable this mode. For more
information, refer to the QuickTest
Installation Guide.

Fast—Runs your test or component without the
execution arrow to the left of the Keyword View
or Expert View . This option requires fewer system resources.

Very descriptive and cool answers by both of the members.

Actually it depends on you what are your requirements, and definitely fast mode is fast execution.

Prefer normal mode for debugging and fast mode if you have already debug your script and you are satisfied with it, for regression testing.

Re: What is the difference between Normal mode and Fast mode?

Hi, normal mode: runs your test or component with the execution arrow to the left of the keyword view or expert view, marking each step or statement as it is performed. If the test contains multiple actions, the tree in the keyword view item column expands to display the steps, and the expert view displays the script, of the currently running action. You must have microsoft script debugger installed to enable this mode. fast mode. Runs your test or component without the execution arrow to the left of the keyword view or expert view (for tests) and does not expand the item tree or display the script of each action as it runs. This option requires fewer system resources. Cheers sycho certified hp quicktest professional 9.2 software
