    Hi Stephen,

This scenario occurs because the communication between the COntroller and Load Generator machine happens through a software called as Agent.

Incase the Agent Service on the specified IP Address is not running, we would still be able to ping the machine, but cannot get it to act as a Load generator.

navigate to location in Start Menu where LoadRunner is displayed. You should be having an option to activate SrvcAgent. I am not exactly sure of the option name as I dont have LR Installed presently. But I am sure there is an option to activate the Service Agent.

Once you click on those options, try connecting again. I am sure you will be able to get the LoadGenerator up.

    Cheers.......
