What will be Priority and Severity
i wnat to know 2 answare pls help me...
1) y2k problem was found in 1980 ... what will be it priority and Severity.
2) suppose i am testing one application in my home comp and i gone out some were but the application is still running on my comp.. one chile come and start playing with the application .. and the application is crash.. and next day i come to office and tell my college to crash that application but they fail to crash that application... what is the priority and severity ....
3) one more question .. My web page developer develop one page and by mistake he/she ... had written the company name wrong eg(India ltd and he had written Inda ltd).. what willbe it priority and Severity.
this question was ask in GE test... pls help me
pls let me know...

Hi,
1.Y2k problem was found in1980. As the problem was so severe that it could actually stop the working on computer systems as almost everything is dependent on dates. That assigns it a higher severity.Priority too would be high because messing up with dates would have messed up every record.Finding a solution as early as possible and seeing that it actually worked would have been a great task.
2.This will be assigned a low priority as there are not many cases that would crash the system, ie. there would be a very rare scenario that would crash the system.It is very unlikely that a user would encounter such a scenario in a normal flow.Severity would be high as it is actually crashing the system and bring it to a halt.ie. the functionality is getting effected
3.wrong company name doent actually cause any harm to the normal functionality as such.ie. people can still continue using the functionality. So assign it a low severity. But Priority should be high because the company name itself is displayed wrong.
Hope I am correct.

ans- high severity and low priority(when u r dates are not after 2000)
high severity and high priority(when u r dates involve afer 2k)

The defect in this will have high priority and high severity. Since without the problem is fixed the system will not function so it should be given more priority. Also, without fixing the bug none of the operations can be functioned, the severity in this case will also be high.

In this case the system is not behaving consistently and it fluctuates. So in this the defect should be addressed as high priority defect, since if the system is not consistent, the operations defined cannot be carried out on all specified times. The severity will also be High in this case as the system should be available at any point of time.

The defect in this case can be given very low priority, since the change of name in the company will not stop the further processing of the application, but the severity is very high, because the change of company name will change the main purpose of the business
