certification of latest version is always recommended so SCJP 1.5. would be better.
further SCJP is entery level certification for next step you must decide whether you wanna go into web development or application development. for Web development proceed with Web Developer / Web Compponent Developer track and as an application developer you may opt SCJD . While certifications upgrade your knowledge level they also add wieght to your CV. cuz some emoployers explicitly demand for certified programmers. hope this will help. Regards.

SCJP 1.5 i.e. SCJP 5.0 is the better option to get good valued Certificate.

It is always recommended to go for latest version. SCJP 1.5 will add more weight to your Profile..

1.4 is comparitevely easier than 1.5
As Java 7 is going to hit the market soon... it will be better if you go for 5. Certifications has always have their own values  ALL THE BEST
