1^2+2^2=5, 3^2+4^2=25, 5^2+6^2=61, 7^2+8^2=113, 9^2+10^2=181, 11^2+12^2=265.

I´ve got same result, but another solution:
5 -> 20 -> 61 -> 113 -> 181 -> 265
+20 +36 +52 +68 +84
differences between the number you have to add: always 16
so next after 265: 265 + 84 + 16
last result + last added number + 16

The ans is 265.

Solutions: 1^2+2^2 = 1 +4 = 5
3^2+4^2 = 9+16 = 25
5^2+6^2 = 25+36 = 61
7^2+8^2 = 49+64 = 113
9^2+10^2 = 81+100 = 181

Now
11^2 + 12^2 = 121+144 = 265
